eCPM, Ad Revenue and Ad Request Change [INFOGRAPHIC 2020]

As the advertising industry is slowly recovering from COVID-19, Setupad has exclusively collected statistics of the top 30 domains or publishers from the year 2020 and 2019. Let’s see how their eCPMs, ad revenue, and ad requests have changed over the last six months.

From January to June 2020, on average, total ad requests for publishers have increased by 6.74% compared to the same period in 2019.  In June 2020, total ad requests increased by 12.51% compared to 2019.

According to the graph below from March to June 2020, publishers have experienced a drop in the average eCPM by 4.32% compared to 2019. Even though at the beginning of March in 2020, the average eCPM dropped, some publishers still experienced growth in eCPM during this time.

As average eCPM results dropped in 2020, so did publishers’ ad revenue. In April 2020, publishers’ ad revenue showed the most significant drop by 17.75% compared to April in 2019. However, in May 2020, the average eCPM results went up, and so did publishers’ ad revenue. In June 2020, we can see that ad revenue grew by 9.26% compared to the same period in 2019.

Over the last six months in 2020, publishers have experienced growth in their traffic since the total ad requests have increased compared to 2019. This leads us to think that more and more people spent their time at home searching for content that is relevant to them. However, in 2020 the average eCPM results have dropped. It highlights that advertisers bought ad impressions at a lower price or didn’t buy them at all, thus diminishing publishers’ ad revenues.

It’s for sure that pandemic has affected publishers’ ad revenue during the last six months. However, we can already see the slow recovery in May and June.
